Learning 2x Timestables

Return to Teaching Timestables

2x

It is valuable for children to recognise that the 2x tables are another way of expressing doubles. Students are often familiar with doubling from games and prior education.

2x3; 2x4

Additionally, 2x3 and the expressions 2x4 – are easily recognisable using fingers on each hand to demonstrate the double.

2x6

When looking at 2x6; remind students that 2 x 5 = 10 and then 2 more.

Activity: Dice Game – By rolling a 10-sided dice and calculating the sum you will frequently encounter doubles.

Activity: Mirror Manipulative: Use a mirror to show the reflection of a collection of items to show that there is double the original number of materials. For example: small toys, counters, tennis balls and other countable items.
